Technology Tools

Image
From Temple University       This is the first class I have taken that is meant to be fully online. I believe that that is a great characteristic of this class as it gives us the opportunities to become better researchers and become more familiar with all the tools the internet has given us. In this day and age the internet makes the world go round and knowing how to use all the tools it has is a very important life skill that will be used in almost any job. The one web skill I really want to master this semester is how to research efficiently. We have so much information available to us, but it can be difficult to filter through all that and reach the information you need. I do not have any recommendations on any browser tips, but Grammarly is always a good thing to use.

Time Management: The Art of Procrastination

Image
From TeamWork      One of the most important things you learn in life is how to manage your time. When you manage your time well you are able to be more productive an you are able to put yourself in a good routine. The article that caught my eye first was "Four Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination" by Peter Banerjea. In highschool, and in the beginnging of college, I struggled with procrastination a lot because I was able to excel without working too hard. However, I knew I had to change this so that I could prosper even more in college and life after. This article helped a lot because I would use some of these strategies to be more productive in this class especially.

Assignments

From SageDay      The assignments in this class are not like anything I have done in college before. To me, the most intriguing assignments are the storybook assignments as we use stories we have read before, but the unique part of these is that we add our own spin to it which can change the story completely. Another unique aspect of the assignments is that we have the ability to do them at our own pace. This allows us to go as fast as we want or spend more time on the assignments.

Growth Mindset

Image
Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset      Before this blog post I had no idea who Carol Dweck was, but I am glad that I have been introduced to her now. Many of the things that she says I agree with because I have noticed these things in my own life as well. Having a growth mindset allows you to learn and understand more as you will have more motivation to learn things that might be a little hard for you now. If you had a fixed mindset it would be much more difficult to learn since whenever you feel something is too hard to understand you would feel dejected and take the easy way instead of spending time to learn and understand the concept.      Whenever my little brother asks me for help on his homework and I try to teach him the concepts he might not always get it at first. Sometimes, I would react too harshly and try to teach him too aggressively. I have now learned that whenever you are teaching someone a new concept they need a lot of motivation and coaching so that they feel c

Introduction to a Future Anesthesiologist

Image
Hi everyone! My name is Rohit Thomas and I am a junior studying Microbiology on the pre-med track. I want to become an anesthesiologist and work in the operating room. I love my major because it is so interesting to learn about the world around us and organisms that are inside of us. When I am not studying I like to go hiking, watch Netflix, listen to music, and sometimes even try to produce beats. I listen to a lot of different types of music from 70s classic rock to Travis Scott and EDM. Recently, I have even started listening to British rap. My favorite things to watch on Netflix are shows with a lot of drama and action, and one of my favorite shows that fits this criteria is Mad Men. Other shows I constantly find myself watching are The Office and That 70s Show. However, a lot of my time this quarantine was spent playing Warzone with my friends. Poster for Mad Men     I am very excited for this class because I have been exposed to Indian epics in the past but I have never rea

Storybook Favorites

(Birth of Satyavati by Neha Kapil ) In the Eyes of Shashthi     The title of this storybook is perfect as it foreshadows how the information is presented, which is in first-person as Shashthi herself. The introduction is also very helpful as I have not heard of this goddess before and it gave me crucial insight to her personality. I learned that Shashthi can be a very revengeful person as she takes a mother's six children away because the husband hurt her cat. However, we also learn that Shashthi can be forgiving since once the mother realizes the mistake and apologizes Shashthi helps her. The format of this website is also great as it is very vibrant and the pictures included weave well into the story. My favorite picture from this storybook is the one above as it looks similar to the Birth of Venus. Karna: The Ill-Fated Hero     This storybook popped out to me because I recognized the name Karna from reading the Mahabharata for a literature class I took. The title is very solid a

My Favorite Place: Rome

Image
(St. Peter's Square, Rome from ContextTravel )          The summer before my freshman year of college my cousins and I went on vacation to Italy two years ago. We visited a lot of the major cities like Florence, Milan, Venice, and Pisa. However, the one city that I always think about is Rome. Rome is one of the greatest cities in the world and once you see it you immediately know why. There is so much history embedded in everything. Walking down the streets you are just astounded by how picturesque everything is, and when you see historical sites like the Colosseum, Pantheon, or St. Peter's Square you are blown away. It's hard to put in words what you feel, but as you just walk around you feel content with where you are. Not only is the history and architecture of Rome beautiful, but the food is amazing as well. I love pasta, lasagna, and gelato and being in Rome everywhere you go there is always amazing food you have to try. Italy is one of the most beautiful places I ha
